Division 5 By-Election announced, voting day September 9
Following the departure of former Councillor Eric Van Essen from Council last month, a by-election will be held for Division 5 on Monday, September 9.
Mr. Van Essen resigned from his position due to moving out of Division 5 and no longer being eligible to serve on Council under the Alberta Municipal Government Act. At today’s Council meeting, the remaining six Councillors voted in favour of holding a by-election to fill the vacancy in Division 5.
The by-election will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, with an additional, advance voting date to be announced.
The nomination period begins Friday, July 5, 2024, through 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, which is the last day that a person intending to run for Council can file their nomination papers. The successful candidate would serve until the next municipal election in October 2025.
To be eligible as a candidate, a person must:
Have resided in Division 5 for the six months preceding Nomination Day, which is Monday, August 12, 2024.
Be a Canadian citizen.
Be at least 18 years of age on Nomination Day (Monday, August 12, 2024).
“We strongly encourage anyone who is interested in running to get more information,” says CAO Cole Beck. “We have a dynamic and engaged Council that is working toward several exciting projects and initiatives.”
