Lethbridge County Road Bans Begin Due to Warm Weather

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY – As of 12:00 a.m., on March 17, 2017, Lethbridge County will implement seasonal road bans on hard top roads as detailed in the road ban order.

“Due to the warmer temperatures, Lethbridge County is now implementing seasonal road bans. Citizens should be aware of the affected roads and the maximum allowable weights.” says Rick Bacon, Director of Municipal Services.

As noted in the road ban order, the majority of hard top roads will be banned to 75% load as defined in the Alberta Commercial Vehicle Dimension & Weight Regulation with some exceptions being banned to 50%, and all gravel roads are banned to 90%. Citizens can visit the Lethbridge County website (www.lethcounty.ca) for an updated list of the 2017 road bans.

Operators holding road use permits under Policy 352 should be aware that seasonal bans are in place and supersede the unrestricted loading as detailed in their permit.

Any operators who are located on Banned Roads and exporting products out of Canada may apply for exemption under an Export Permit at the Picture Butte County Shop (403) 732.5333.

Both the province and surrounding municipalities implement road bans when the roads are most vulnerable in an attempt to maintain an acceptable and safe level of service for these types of roads and reduce the amount of damage caused by loading during periods when the road is susceptible.
