LETHBRIDGE- A new framework agreement for regional collaboration was signed today by the St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID), Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District (LNID), and Lethbridge County. The agreement will provide the three parties with a guide for future partnerships for the benefit of citizens and businesses in the area.

“We were pleased to sign this agreement today,” said Ann Mitchell, Lethbridge County Chief Administrative Officer. “Irrigation plays a critical role in the economy of our region. We understand the importance of collaboration with the irrigation districts and look forward to what the future brings now that we have a solid framework to work with.”

“This framework formalizes the strong relationship that the County and districts have and demonstrates our commitment to working together and solving problems together is for the benefit of all citizens,” said Terrence Lazarus, General Manager of St. Mary River Irrigation District. “We look forward to continuing this relationship well into the future and look forward to working with all parties to face the challenges the future might hold.”

“Signing the Collaboration Framework between the irrigation districts and the County signifies a willingness to work together to achieve common goals,” said Alan Harrold, General Manager of Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District. “This agreement will benefit our stakeholders and give us the opportunity to collaborate with the SMRID and County on future challenges and opportunities.”

The collaboration framework requires that the parties meet regularly to discuss potential projects and opportunities for collaboration, as well as guidelines for how project budgets will be determined. The term of the agreement is from October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2021.
