Federal Government Announces Winning Superclusters to Receive $950-million in Funding- including a Prairies-Based Supercluster
LETHBRIDGE- Lethbridge County is pleased that Protein Industries Canada has been chosen as one of the five winning superclusters to receive funding from a Government of Canada initiative. The $950-million in funding will be distributed among each supercluster with the goal that over 50,000 jobs will be created across Canada while growing the nation’s economy by $50 billion over the next 10 years.
A supercluster is defined as an area that is home to a strong industrial cluster (or clusters) that have a shared reliance on specialized inputs (such as technology and infrastructure). The Protein Industries Supercluster is an industry-led alliance based in the Prairies. Its goal is to help Canada become a leading source for high-quality plant-based proteins, such as grain, hemp, flax, canola, and pulses.
“This is a very exciting announcement and Lethbridge County looks forward to working with Protein Industries Canada to realize the opportunities for agriculture in Lethbridge County and area. We are fortunate to have a strong agricultural sector and we believe that this announcement is another step forward,” said Reeve Lorne Hickey.
